Review: Braids

It is still here… the milkmaid braid and its longevity! Will it

ever be truly “out”?

The beloved messy milkmaid braid is a favourite of trendsetters because of it’s undone, messy decorative nature.

In fact, I distinctly remember Ashley Olsen pioneering this look back in early 2005 at Zac Posen’s fashion show. She wore a single braid across her hairline, and the remaining hair was tied into a messy, dirty, amazing, bun. I remember experimenting with this look immediately after, as Miss MK & A are my favourite fashion icons.

Not far later than year, Sienna Miller was spotted the following year walking in New York City with her hair in two small, messy and loose braids while the rest of her hair dried naturally into messy waves.

If you can remember Mary Kate’s version in later 2006, early 2007, she rocked a punky-heidi inspired plaits. Two French braids pinned back very tightly. And Miss Peaches Geldof wore a hippie-chic meets doll glam when she attended an LG party in London 2007. She paired the mini braids with unstructured waves and heavy fringe.

Right now, the most popular version of milkmaid braid is definitely Lauren Conrad. She rocks the milkmaid braid almost daily. It’s a good mix between MKA old style versions, but it is a little bit….. more kept? I guess.
