First off, a brief history: For those of you who didn’t read the comic books growing up, G.I. Joe is NOT the name of a person, but a group of soldiers who work for the catchy acronym, which stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity. The G.I. Joes are a unit with names like Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Hawk, and Cover Girl.

The character of Cover Girl began life with the name Courtney A. Krieger. Before joining the G.I. Joe team and receiving the code name Cover Girl, Krieger worked as a famous fashion model. When she became bored and frustrated with modeling, she joined the Army. This is the character Victoria’s Secret lingerie and world famous model, Karolina Kurkova, will be playing.

While Kurkova’s name of Cover Girl may have you thinking she’s going to play a sexy, teddy-clad soldier, expect something much more tame. The model will be wearing drab looking military fatigues, and her long blond hair will look scraggly, for the most part.

This will be Kurkova’s second film role after playing the character Pia in 2007′s “My Sexiest Year.” While filming for G.I. Joe has wrapped, the movie isn’t scheduled to be released until August, 2009.
