Harajuku and the Western World

Japan in known for its youth style and fashion, mainly Harajuku, which refers to an area located outside a station of the same name.

The ‘Western World’ has always been infatuated with the stylistic designs of Japanese youth. Their bold sense of fashion incorporates more color, patterns and accessories than one could imagine pulling off walking the streets of some of the our major fashion districts. However, it is gaining immense popularity having been influenced by 70′s British Street Punk and Gothic looks which are already prevalent here. But how do you incorporate such a bold look into a seemingly boring Western wardrobe?

ONE PIECE AT A TIME?!

For those who already have a rainbow of options to chose from at the tip of their look (see hairstyles for reference), can take it one step further by adding a brilliantly bright graphic tee displaying a Japanese Aime character with a pair of not so strategically ripped jeans of the less than spandex nature. It appears that the footwear is one of the imperative accessories to complete the Harajuku look. The shoes alone should stand out. Whether they be colorful canvas, metallic boots, or simply yet boldly black dress shoes accompanied by the most intensely colored socks you get your hands, or should I say feet, on.

With a celebrity like Gwen Stefani, who is known for her bold and influential style, adopting and supporting such looks, you can be assured that it will be gracing the streets of the major fashion epicenters of the ever influenced Western World before you can learn/say the Japanese equivalent for “On Your Marks, Get Set, GO!”.
