Christian Lacroix`s Insect-Inspired Couture
At a time when insects are dying by the truckload and we’re crying out good riddance, Christian Lacroix has extended their lifespan, if only for just one more season. For his Fall 2009 couture show, Lacroix has chosen to expose the hidden beauty of these loathsome pests.
Fashion lovers with a phobia need not fear, there’s no actual bug or design of a bug in sight. The collection was filled with harmless lace and dizzying patterns. More resembling your average backyard garden, the plentiful random splatters of colour were culled right from the luminescence of beetle wings, or a more exotic species of spider. Models completed the look with spiked hair reminiscent of antennae, heavily done-up eyes in earth tones, and black veils giving them a rather predatory look. Hopefully, this is one look you won’t want to squish with a Kleenex and flush down the toilet!
