Keffiyeh: the Good, the Bad, and the Religious
Known to most “fashionistas” as a must-have fall staple, the keffiyeh is so much more than a fashion accessory.
A friend of mine recently told me how badly he wanted a keffiyeh. When asked what a keffiyeh was, he said, “Oh, you know, those cute scarves with the houndstooth-y print.” Feeling annoyed and not in the mood for an arguement, I quickly dropped the subject.
The keffiyeh’s popularity as a mainstream accessory has grown in the past two years, but its true cultural roots and signaficance seems to have fallen into the background.
Rachel Ray was recently surrounded by controversy when she appeared in an advertisement for Dunkin Donuts sporting a keffiyeh.
