I have fallen in love with Natalia Brilli’s charming leather wrapped horseshoe pendant, which hangs from an exquisite soft leather cord. And, it’s pink. Need I say more?
The Belgian artist (and former Rochas accessories designer) wraps her jewelery and curious objects in lambskin for a look that’s exceptionally modern and darkly romantic, combining a bit of feminine charm with a rare modern twist.
Her fall 08/09 collection features wristwatches and bracelets tightly wrapped in white, grey, and black leather. You can also find dominoes, whistles, origami, a skateboard, a classically styled horse head cuff and pendant, and a pearl and bow necklace, all handmade and sculpted from soft leather.

“I have always been fascinated by leather for as long as I can remember. I like to subvert the way it is used and its vulgar connotations,” says Brilli.

Of her inspirations, Brilli explains, “I love the dark romanticism of art in the sixteenth century. There is that macabre spirit”.

While her jewelery raises a few eyebrows in more conservative fashion circles, others in the know see a rising star in the world of fashion.

“What I do is not for everyone, but that’s the way I like it,” says Brilli, who would rather follow her instincts than mainstream trends.
