US TopShop opening pushed to March 2009
Topshop’s owner, Sir Phillip Green, reportedly said that building the SoHo flagship store in New York “has been a logistical nightmare”. It is reported that he has had to make numerous changes to the design of the 40,000 sq-ft store such as moving staircases around. He has also had complications due to long waits in ordering escalators and getting the necessary permits from the city to complete construction.
Topshop is delaying their opening now until March 2009 due to construction delays. It was originally slated to open in October of this year.
Of the delays, Green has reportedly commented by saying, “America is a new territory for us and we have to get it exactly right. This store can’t be a nine out of 10 when it opens; it has to be a10 out of 10.”
Thankfully, Green is still planning to expand in New York and his search for a second location is still underway.
I guess patience is a virtue.
