Stella McCartney has threatened a Mayfair boutique with legal action, after discovering that they had used pieces from her lingerie collection in an advertisement for fur.

The ad, for high-end fur boutique Hockley, shows a model wearing a sheer black bra from McCartney’s lingerie line, beneath a £6,450 mink coat.

The designer only became aware of the ad when she spotted it on the pages of a fashion magazine.

A source from the McCartney’s Mayfair store revealed to the Mail on Sunday, ‘Stella went absolutely ballistic when she saw it. I have never seen her so angry. She hit the roof and said that she planned to sue.’

They added, ‘She allows her accessories to be lent to shoots all the time, but she would never ever allow anything of hers to go to a fashion house that deals exclusively with fur.’

The mistake occurred when a trusted stylist asked to borrow the underwear for an editorial fashion shoot. They then used the pieces for the advertisement, without consulting McCartney’s team.

A spokesperson from Hockley has apologised for the error, issuing the following statement, ‘Hockley is aware of Stella McCartney’s views and is respectful of them. This was an unfortunate mistake and Hockley would not intentionally make anyone feel uncomfortable.’

The company has confirmed that the advert will not be used in any further publications.

McCartney is a famous advocate of animal rights, and has pioneered the use of non-leather in designer shoes and accessories. She has campaigned for PETA, and often speaks out on the use of fur in the fashion industry.
