POP’s Autumn issue spoils us this month with its pick ‘n’ mix selection of six gorgeous cover stars to choose from. Naomi Campbell, Natalia Vodianova, Jourdan Dunn, Agyness Deyn, Amber Valletta and Oluchi Onweagba all grab the limelight with their separate portraits, each telling a different story in Prada’s eponymous lace and tailoring. The faux religious styling, combined with the issue’s ‘80s Excess’ theme, seems to make a cheeky nod towards ‘Like A Prayer’ era Madonna. We approve!
Following Vogue Italia’s lead, POP appears to have made a conscious decision to represent black and white models equally this issue. It’s excellent to finally see some diversity from a magazine that normally lauds the pale-and-blond type, just a pity it feels more like bandwagon-jumping than genuine progression. However, the models look fabulous and, in light of this, debating the reasons behind their inclusion is rather irrelevant. Let’s all just shut up and enjoy the pretty people, okay? Okay.
