Stiletto Magazine Unveils Underwater Couture
Evoking a deep-sea wonderland familiar to anyone whose jaw has ever dropped watching The Blue Planet, Raphael Dallaporta’s shoot for Stiletto magazine certainly frames couture clothes in an eerie new light.
Each garment is simply placed centre page against a black background, imbibing the creations of Armani, Givenchy, Chanel and Lacroix with the same artistic reverence one might reserve for a Picasso. The soft focus and billowy lift of the fabric is the magic touch to this shoot, producing an unnerving underwater effect that transforms the familiar image of the dress into that of an otherworldly creature. Here, the decadence of couture fashion is cleverly highlighted by the remote and alien location that contextualises it. To evoke so much, with so little (no models, no props, no post production) is genius artistic direction, and deserves recognition. My particular favourite is the Armani Prive that looks like so many clamshells and scallops.
