Justin Timberlake and Ashton Kutcher are squaring off over which of them sparked the Trucker Hat Craze of 2003.

Justin Timberlake is convinced he was the first celebrity  to sport a trucker cap. The singer is slightly offended that fashion experts have credited hunky Ashton Kutcher, 30, with setting the trend. Justin, 27, is keen to set the record straight.

“It’s funny. I keep hearing Ashton Kutcher say how he was responsible for trucker caps. I’ve heard him make that statement before,” the SexyBack singer said in the September 2008 edition of Fashion Rocks Magazine.

J.T says it was actually he and childhood friend/William Rast designer Trace Ayala who spurned the once-popular fashion trend.

Justin goes on to say “Me and my friend Trace Ayala were wearing them when we were 17.”

Although Justin likes experimenting with different styles, he doesn’t see himself as a trendsetter. He added: “Honestly, I don’t walk out of my house thinking, man, I hope somebody thinks this looks cool!’ “There’s some stuff I wear that people think is not cool.”

Justin is set to perform at the Fashion Rocks concert which celebrates the relationship between fashion and music at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on Friday September 5, 2008. Beyonce Knowles, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, the Pussycat Dolls and Timbaland are also scheduled to appear.
