Eva Mendes is the cover girl for the August ’08 issue of Interview, looking like a slightly (just slightly) cleaned-up version of Amy Winehouse. The burning question is, of course, her mysterious rehab stint at Cirque Lodge. Unfortunately, it’s clear from the start that substance abuse is not a topic she wants anything to do with. A large chunk of the interview is David Colman (the interviewer) daring to bring up the subject, Eva getting touchy and defensive, and Colman backpedaling. Once that bit of awkwardness is overcome, the rest of the interview is quite pleasant, Mendes discussing the hardships of being a Latina actress in Hollywood. For those who want to see the full article (along with Eva’s snark moment), Interview hits newsstands on July 15th.

As a side note, I would love to see an Amy Winehouse biopic with Eva in the lead role. Somebody start writing a screenplay!
