Site Review: Ravinstyle.com

Weekend Warrior look from Ravinstyle.com

Corralling the freshest styles from the most stylistically unique New York neighbourhoods like Tribeca and Soho, Ravinstyle.com founder Jill Licata set out to broadcast these great finds to women across the globe. In just eight short years, the site has expanded to offer more than 60 labels from gifted young designers.

Their main splash page showcases their favourite looks, and encourages you to search for outfits based on whether your style is more minimalist, boho, or feminine. In each of these categories is a series of pre-packaged looks with names like “Weekend Warrior” (a zebra-print hat, zigzagged tunic, studded flip-flops, and tote) or “On Broadway” (a sexy royal-blue slitted dress, ankle boots, and a floppy wide-brimmed hat) that will give you the perfect idea as to how and where to wear them. Browsing the “looks” seems to be preferred by the site and shoppers, as everything from the dress to the jewellery is laid out and ready for you to purchase from the site.

There is the option of getting a little creative and searching by category to put your own look together from scratch. However, dresses are the site’s bread and butter, and browsing the other categories will most of the time yield paltry results (there is only 1 pair of pants, and 2 tanks to choose from in their respective categories). Not to fear, their denim category still has a respectable collection, and their many bags suit any craving, be it for a $300 leather hobo bag, or a $20 quirky canvas tote.

I wish I could say there was a look for everyone here, but their selection is about as limited as the three ‘styles’ they think most of us fit into. Where will the rocker chick or the professional city slicker shop? It won’t be here, unless you’re a fan of the flowy, voluminous tops and dresses which heavily populate the site. If you the type who prefers something a little snugger, I’d say their bags and accessories are still worth a look, but otherwise skip this site. Lovers of colourful tunics and dresses that float away from the body, head over to Ravinstyle.com and find your look!
