Donatella Versace Dedicates Menswear to Barack Obama
Everybody’s favourite golden boy, Barack Obama, has yet another supporter. It’s no secret that the Democrat is a very charismatic man, but it did come as a surprise when Donatella Versace dedicated her latest mens collection to the unlikely candidate. Hailing him as the “man of the moment,” she praised the fact that he was “a relaxed man who doesn’t need to flex muscles to show he has power,” and centered the collection around this state of mind. John McCain must be punching holes in the wall right now. Obama’s got A-list celebs and now Donatella herself as supporters, and he’s got… Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt? Yeech.
Obama, the polar opposite of Versace’s excess, is actually quite the spendthrift, and has said he would only buy five of the same suit and would wear them repeatedly. Donatella’s fashion advice for the Senator was to “get rid of the tie and jazz up the shirt,” hence, Versace’s Spring/Summer ’09 collection was filled with pastel colours, silk shirts, and shiny trousers – with not a tie in sight. Though I can’t see Obama ever wearing a lavender silk tee, who knows, maybe once he’s in the oval office he’ll start glamming it up and will give Carla Bruni-Sarkozy some serious competition in politico style. It seems like Barack Obama, even if he wears the same suit for a week, can do no wrong.
