Adidas in suit against Wal-Mart
Following numerous other sportswear companies, like Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Fubu, Adidas joins up with Nike in another lawsuit against the nation’s largest retail chain Wal-Mart.
Adidas alleges that Wal-MArt had been selling counterfeit Adidas t-shirts at it’s “Sam’s Club” wholesale club stores. Nike also alleges that they have been selling counterfeit Nike t-shirts, aswell as other products.
This would be the fifth and sixth major sportswear companies to sue Wal-Mart for selling counterfeits in the last two years.
“A suit against Wal-Mart should put the retail industry on notice that adidas will not tolerate sales of counterfeit goods anywhere in the country,” said Michael Heilbronner, Associate Counsel, Intellectual Property, of adidas America, Inc. “Counterfeit sales by retailers like Wal-Mart are particularly troublesome to us because the customer’s guard is totally down. Anyone who walks into Sam’s Club has no inkling that the goods he or she is buying may not be authentic.”
