Finally, a trend I can get on board with! In days past, suspenders were seen mostly on stereotypical television nerds, but today, the look puts a cool spin on this dorky staple. These snazzy little straps have slowly been popping up at fashion shows and on city streets. The thing that sets suspenders apart from all the other ‘it’ styles of the moment is that suspenders are meant to be just a tad ridiculous. It’s hard to wear them and take yourself completely seriously. They also require a little more thought (fashion sheep are hitting the ‘back’ button right about now). Suspenders are not like other trends where you can just copy the exact look you see in the magazines; how one person wears their suspenders may not work for another. One has to be bold in order to pull off this look, and possess a truly unique, fearless sense of style – suspenders are definitely not for the timid.

Wear a neutral-coloured pair with wide-leg trousers and a crisp linen shirt for a good anytime look. For a hipster night on the town, experiment with more daring shades paired with shorts. For those on the heavier side, proceed with caution: you don’t want to end up with that “jolly” look.

In my opinion, suspenders are never really a “faux pas,” they just fit into that elusive category of “so tacky it’s good.” If you’re wearing them, chances are you don’t care what anybody thinks, you know you have an inimitable sense of style and that’s enough. Belts are boring! There’s no better way to keep your pants up than with suspenders!
