Yves Saint Laurent is the most influential fashion designer of the 20th century.
Born in Oran, Algeria on August 1, 1936, his fashion sense was inherited from his mother.
He studied at Chambre Syndicate school but only lasted for 3 months as he is frustrated with the syllabus.

He left for Paris at the tender age of 17 and his talent was recognized by Christain Dior who immediately hired him to work at his fashion house. After the death of Dior in 1957, YSL became the head designer of Dior at the age of 21. He was given the task to revolutionalize the fashion label.

Soon he met Pierre Berger and they became romantically involved. They teamed up and opened the Yves Saint Laurent fashion label.

One of his trademark designs were the “smoking” suit and the classic pant suit which gave way to the equality of both sexes. Women are starting to shed their corsets and embrace suits, but at the same time bring in the feminine quality in suits. He invented feminine power.

YSL retired in 2002 at the age of 65, which many people mourned as the end of the fashion era, but his legacy lives on as one of the greatest fashion designer of all time.
