Bloomingdale’s Named Department Store of the Year

Last night the Global Department Store Summit 2008 named Bloomingdale’s “Department Store of the Year.” This was the first-ever global platform for department stores, which took place over a two-day period in London. The new organization was organized by Selfridges and Intercontinental Group of Department Stores and is comprised of 53 department store CEOs who were chosen to vote for the award.
The “Department Store of the Year” award was created to recognize a world-class performer and innovator in the department store industry. The criteria included: an enviable profile through branding, differentiated positioning and powerful messaging; successful developments and executions of product, store and service innovation strategies; delivery of an extraordinary in-store experience; offers of excellent customer service; and strong financial performance.
Commenting on the honor, Michael Gould, Bloomingdale’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said: “We are delighted to receive this award; and I say ‘we’ because it is on behalf of all our associates at every level who have dedicated themselves to excellence, innovation and service. It is their passion that has been recognized by a worldwide peer group, and that is especially gratifying.”
