Kenya Does Fashion For Peace

Top African designers and models came together and held a fashion show last week in Nairobi National Park in support of “Fashion for Peace” a fashion event promoting positive perceptions of Kenya and Africa in other countries. The evening started at sunset last Saturday for cocktails after which 1000 guests enjoyed a gala dinner and couture fashion show.
Proceeds from the show went to some 300,000 Kenyans who were uprooted from their homes after a disputed December election. More than 1300 people died in the fights. Many of these victims live in the Nairobi slums, just kilometers from the park where the event was held.
“It is great that fashion can be held in the name of peace. Fashion is always a good thing that brings people together and this show has really demonstrated that,” said model Lisa Pitkin.
