Review: Home-Made Couture with styleshake.com

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s a do-it-yourself kit on the World Wide Web.

The seemingly endless search for the perfect outfit may be over, thanks to styleshake.com. Catering to all you pseudo-designers out there, this site takes a whole new approach to the shopping experience.

The styleshake.com experience begins in the design studio, where you can choose to make shirts from, dresses, or skirts – with prices ranging from £59 - £99. The design studio allows you to choose your fabric, and design every piece of your outfit from head to toe. The site’s foolproof approach to the design process takes you step by step to ensure every detail is up to par with your specific standards. This guarantees that even lady’s who aren’t so tech-savvy can use this site with ease.

Once your dream ensemble is complete, a size guide does just that – guide you through sizing yourself for the perfect fit. Sizes go up to a 20UK / 16US / 48Europe.

All of your designs are assembled in the site’s UK home. The site boasts their use of ‘babylock’ stitching as opposed to ‘overlock’ stitching, which ensures a more durable article of clothing. This is just more evidence of their attention to detail. Once all of that has been sorted out, the bill comes with the conversions already made, for us who aren’t native to England. Styleshake.com tops off your creation with their signature tag that reads, “Made in England Designed by You.” They have a 10-day guaranteed delivery, as well as free alterations – just in case.

Now, for those of you who aren’t exactly couturiers, not to worry – there’s something in this site for you as well. Aspiring designers and shopaholics alike can feature their original creations for you to view, rate or buy.

They also feature a style blog for women to compare notes and watch the newest trends and designs to hit the site.

Overall, the experience of designing my own clothes was a throw-back to the good ‘ol days of paper dolls and Barbie. In general, I found that the range of the style selections could have been better. However, the site does frequently add and update styles, so that was definitely a plus.

The only thing left to say is to try it yourself – you know you want to.
