MNG by Mango takes Manhattan
Spanish fashion retailer Mango, has made the jump to the Big Apple by opening their first shop in the heart of Soho. With a 97-foot-long catwalk filled with mannequins, MNG by Mango asserted its style in the fast-fashion company’s first Manhattan unit, a 7,500-square-foot flagship that opened Wednesday. “It’s very tough because real estate is very tight,” said Jose Gomez, vice president of business development at Mango. “It’s hard to find AAA locations. SoHo is a AAA location because it has an international clientele, American tourists and New York shoppers.” A cinematographic and industrial interior is recreated with antiques, deconstructed décor and by keeping the original brick walls in tact. Mango’s biggest competitors Zara already have 25 stores in the US so it’s hoped that this expansion will help them to compete on the international market.

Mango is more mainstream. They use supermodels for their campaigns and the clothing is alot more fashion forward compared to Zara’s “safe” style. Mango also dominates the globe in established locations… ask anyone you know in Europe or Asia if they know Mango.

I fell in love with Mango when I went to Italy in 2005 and was upset we didn’t have one here! I can’t believe it finally made it to NY!! Although I AM IN LOVE WITH ZARA, Mango has a great selection too!
