Mary-KAte Olsen is back on the upcoming January 2008 issue of once-hip Nylon magazine. She dishes about her twin sister Ashley, on herself, and her passion for art.

MK on Ashley: “We have a lot of the same friends, but I like my space and I like to be able to do what I want when I’m in my space. I think that because that is my comfort zone — when I’m home — I want to do things at my own speed. We’re very close. We’re extremely close. I completely understand her and she completely understands me. We know what we’re going through emotionally. We deal with so many things everyday and we’re really the two only people who understand how it feels. I’m lucky to be able to go through these emotions with her — to share it and know I’m not alone.”

MK on MK: “I’m a person that has high highs and low lows. You know, I am always growing emotionally and I’m very aware of everything that I go through and that I experience personally. I’m always learning something about myself, whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, that I need to work on. A lot of things make me sad. Sometimes it’s almost easier to be sad. But you end up finding a balance and I think that as I get older I am learning what I can do for myself to make me happy.”

On being an art collector: “I’m always lookg at different artists and photographers: Collection art is one of my passions. Right now I’m looking at….or people that I collect and am really inspired by are Racki and Thomas Rolf: they’re provocative and beautiful. Helmut Newton’s women are beautiful. Warhol”

On people’s perception of her: I wear weird things sometimes. I like to drink coffee. Neither of these things have anything to do with who I am. I am a bit kooky, I am a bit wacky, and that’s how my friends know me: It’s a happy craziness and they connect with that person and respect me for it.
