The ready-to-wear collections for Spring/Summer 2008 were displayed for many prominent fashion houses last week during Milan’s Fashion Week which ended on Saturday. Bold colors, high heels, large belts, pencil skirts, dresses and enormous leather handbags seemed to dominate the catwalk. Many designers opted for soft and flowing fabrics to work around with.

Donatella Versace used solid colors and shimmery fabrics close to the silhouette in order to create her stunning and colorful jade, yellow, pink and turquoise dresses. At Gucci, designer Frida Giannini used a black and white base for her patterns with yellow and pink splashed on giving the collection a feminine appeal. Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s collection was extremely romantic with their over-full gowns, short tulip skirts with brocades and wide-legged “elephant foot” trousers. Milan’s most innovative designer, Miuccia Prada, showed a soft and feminine collection which included bell-bottomed trousers in smoky purples and deep greens. British designer Matthew Williamson for Pucci created a very cheery collection of dresses and sesnsous gowns with bright colors of pink, yellow, orange, blue and purple. Italian designer Giorgio Armani for the Emporio Armani collection used soft tones and layered fabrics to create splashes of silver and sequins. The loose dresses with off-one-shoulder neck lines from Gianfranco Ferre had a timeless quality about them. Rossella Jardini for Moschino embraced an elegant grungy look using feathers, vinyl, chiffon and cable-knits to make a very hip and youthful collection. Burberry Porsum’s British designer Christopher Bailey created a lot of pieces with a military flare using vivid blues, greys, purples, hot-pinks, reds and black. German designer Tomas Maier for Bottega Veneta used soft fabrics and neutral tones in elegant suits and flowing calf-length dresses. High heels from the collection were beautifully embellished with woven leather.

As usual, Milan Fashion Week was lead by passionate designers who believe that a woman is beautiful from every angle. Next week, the fashion scene moves to Paris for the Paris Fashion Week. Can hardly wait…
