Stars celebrate the Golden Age of Couture
Last night, the biggest names in fashion gathered at “The Golden Age of Couture Gala” at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to celebrate the opening of the V&A “Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957” exhibition opening this coming Saturday and running until January 6th, 2008 (£9 admission fee). On display will be gowns and other couture designs from Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy and lesser-known English designers such as Hardy Amies, Norman Hartnell and Balmain among others. In addition to the gowns, photographs, illustrations and screenings of films such as 1957’s Funny Face and The Devil Wears Prada will also be featured in the exposition. “Couture is where a designer can express their ultimate fantasy and it isn’t about being commercial or dressing anybody in the street. It’s what moves fashion forward, it’s what makes us dream,” said Vogue editor Anna Wintour to Ireland Online.
